IT’S ABOUT YOUR HEALTH

In recent years, it has become more and more well known that molds, when present in sufficient quantities in the indoor environment, can severely affect the health of its occupants. Mold illness is often divided into two GENERAL categories:

Upper Respiratory

The first one is the most common and causes upper respiratory symptoms as well as rashes, dizziness, sinus problems, nosebleeds, chronic pneumonitis, mold-induced asthma, skin infections, neurological problems, fatigue, aches and pains, watery eyes, allergic aspergillosis, sore throat, nausea and vomiting, and more. Symptoms tend to abate once the molds have been removed or the individual has gotten out of exposure..

Inflammatory Response

The second scenario is much more complex and can cause an inflammatory response with symptoms that are also associated with what is referred to as Water Damaged Building Syndrome, Sick Building Syndrome or Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS). This occurs when the toxins produced by molds (dead or living) in an indoor environment are inhaled. The individual experiences a perpetual inflammatory response that can cause numerous health symptoms; there are around a half dozen which are the most common.

This tends to occur in approximately 1/4 of the population who have a genetic predisposition that makes them more susceptible. This doesn’t mean that they will get ill but simply increases the odds. It has been suggested that many individuals who have Lyme Disease may also be affected by mold toxins.
